Scotland’s rugby team given a make-over by Andy

Scotland’s rugby team given a make-over by Andy RobinsonHead coach Robinson – who succeeded Frank Hadden this summer – has selected just five of those who started March’s RBS Six Nations Championship defeat to England for his first match in charge against Fiji on Saturday. “The guys that haven’t been selected that are on the bench, they’ve got an impact to make as well. It’s about the whole squad and how that works.”Asked if the team represented the Robinson blueprint going forward, he replied: “It’s a team to play Fiji and win the game and the key for us is that we understand that rugby is a physical game; you have to win the collisions, you have to establish a go-forward.”But it’s also to be able to have the skill levels to open up the spaces.”I’d like to think that we’ve got the balance there in the 22 to be able to deliver that.”The Scarlets and Wales back row forward Dafydd Jones will undergo surgery on Tuesday on the shoulder injury he suffered against New Zealand on Saturday in autumn international.Jones, who came on as a second-half replacement for Andy Powell, sprung his A/C joint and will ultimately miss the rest of the four-match series in Cardiff. He is also likely to be out of action until the new year, at the earliest. The injury means 21 year-old Dragons flanker Dan Lydiate is certain to make his debut against Samoa on Friday with coach Warren Gatland likely to make wholesale changes after the 19-12 defeat at the hands of the All Blacks.Rugby Hospitality: For this match sports hospitality is available form corporate hospitality group. An overview of the Six Nations Rugby Tournament

The six nations is a rugby tournament held anually between the major six rugby playing nations in Europe: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Each team plays every other team once with home field advantage alternating from one year to the next. Matches are played in some of the largest stadiums in the world and generally roared on by a vociferous crowd. If one team manages to defeat all of the other teams in the tournament, they are said to have completed “The Grand Slam.” A Grand Slam has only been won back to back five times, most recently by France in 1997 and 1998, and the record for the overall number of Grand Slams won is held by England with 12.If any of the Home Nations (i.e England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales) manage to beat all of the other home nations, they are said to have won the Triple Crown which has been won on four occasions twice by Wales (1976-1979) and England (1995-1998). In fact it is England who hold the record for the number of Triple Crowns won with 23 individual titles. Wales are close behind with 20 Triple Crowns to their name. One of the things that makes the Six Nations tournament so unique are the number of smaller compeitions which take place under the umbrella of the main competition. The oldest of these has been around since 1879 and is known as The Calcutta Cup which is contested each year between England and Scotland. More recently, additional trohpies are played for each time the six nations is played. The Millennium Trophy is awarded to the victor of the England/Ireland game and in 2007 France and Italy started contesting the Giuseppe Garibladi Trophy named after the man who helped to unify Italy. The victor of each match is awarded two points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. There are no bonus points awarded for the number of tries that a team manages to score. Before 1994, any teams that finished on the same number of points shared the championship. However, since that time the idea of ‘points difference’ has been introduced. If the points difference is the same between two teams at the top of the table, then the championship is given to the team who has scored the most tries. Only if that number is equal too is the Championsip declared a tie.At the time of writing, a tie has never been reached.Six Nations rugby tickets are notoriously hard to come by with allocations selling out incredibly quickly despite the size of some of the stadiums. It’s testiment to the history of the competition and the passion that it generates that tickets are snapped up almost as soon as they’re available. If you’re lucky enough to be able to get yourself a ticket though, I’d thoroughly recommend going to a Six Nations match as the experience is second to none.At the time of writing, the current holders of the Six Nations Championship are Ireland who managed to complete the Grand Slam in 2009.

Ireland With Backline Injuries

Ireland’s backline is known for being the most dynamic and creative in the sport of rugby, but now the team is not going through a very good time since there are several players with injuries; situation which forced to develop a brand new plan for the Six Nations game on Saturday versus Wales.

Among the injured we have fullbacks Geordan Murphy and Girvan Dempsey who will not be able to be part of the match and whom are the major leaders from the backs.

Ireland’s has had two victories against Italy and Scotland and only one defeat against France; and the team hopes to win the title despite the current situation.

Rob Kearney will move from left side to fill in at fullback and Tommy Bowe who scored two tries against the Scots, switches sides to take Kearney’s place on the left. Shane Horgan will play at number 14 for Ireland, which is second in the Six Nations standings with four.

Murphy’s non appearance is a major concern for the Irish team as he is the key person in the game and this was clearly seemed when they played Scotland as he was Dempsey’s replacement who got injured in his Achilles tendon after a game against Leicester.

“Ireland will be confident about winning the game as historically the fixture has been good to them,” Wales winger Mark Jones said. “But we are comfortable with being underdogs so we must weather the storm and grind out a result.”

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan called in Paul O’Connell and hooker Rory Best to replace Mick O’Driscoll and Bernard Jackman; as well as Luke Fitzgerald who had been on the bench to fill in the spot left by Horgan

For the next clash, Ireland remains as the favorite specially because they are the home team and the strongest candidate to win the championship. Unfortunately, Ireland won’t count with its top class players and are under a bit more pressure.

On the other hand, we have Wales which is coming off from a stunning victory against Italy 47-8; everyone agrees Coach Warren Gatland is the new gear stirring the team since he took last December; he has managed to restore the pace and has made things right for everyone.

“There is a clear distinction between the coaches and the players,” inside center Gavin Henson said. “The coaches are pretty strict, which is good. They command respect and players are on the edge. Training is so intense that you are one bad session away from being dropped.”

For now, Mike Phillips is replacing Dwayne Peel the only change to the backline while Gatland recalled hooker Huw Bennett, tight head prop Adam Jones and lock Alun-Wyn Jones. This match will provide Gatland a chance to show the Irish team that they were wrong to dismiss him from his roll and promote O’Connell.

Rugby Union – Six Nation Rbs 2009

This tournament shall include teams of England, France, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy. Ever since 5 teams became six in the year 2000, only 3 teams which are England, France, and Wales have great chances of winning. The other three teams have realistically very little chance of winning. Wales will be looking to defend their title.Teams which will win all their matches will also collect the grand slam along with the prestigious Six Nation’s Rugby Trophy. The tournament will begin on Saturday with first match between England vs. Italy on the 7th February 2009 and Ireland vs. France on the same day. The match scheduling is as follows:England vs. Italy Sat 7thIreland vs. France sat 7thScotland vs. Wales Sun 8thFrance vs. England 14thWales vs. England 14thItaly vs. Ireland 15thFrance vs. Wales 27thScotland vs. Italy 28thIreland vs. England  28thItaly vs. Wales 14th MarScotland vs. Italy Sat 14th MarEngland vs. France Sun 15th MarItaly vs. France Sat 21st MarEngland vs. Scotland Sat 21st MarWales vs. Ireland Sat 21st MarDetailed Overview of the TeamsWales: There is no argument that Wales are the clear favorites with none of their rival having improved their performance recently; their retaining the Championship is easy. With arguably the worlds best finisher in Williams, coupled with a strong team across the board, it would take a very good side to match the Dragons over 5 games. The match in France shall be the biggest threat to another Grand Slam title.England & Martin Johnson are in desperate need of a positive campaign after being hammered in the November Internationals. Much will rest on the shoulders of Andy Goode, the fly-half recalled for his first game in over 2 years in the absence of both Danny Cipriani & Toby Flood. They do have 3 home games this time around but must travel both to Wales & Ireland; they haven’t won in either country since they last won the tournament in 2003.France:  They can win or lose to anyone on their day and that will never change. The home loss to England last year hurt Les Bleus, however, and they will be looking for revenge at Twickenham on day 4 match. With the pressure on coach Marc Livrement after consecutive defeats to South Africa & Australia, the notorious Parisian crowd may also work against the French if they do not try to take early leads in their home gameIreland: They haven’t won this competition since 1985 and there is no reason to believe that the Shamrock is any better than their rivals this time. They do have one of the best fixture lists, with home games against England.Get set for the excitemen and try ScoresPro.com for Rugby Livescore or Rugby Results
